In our Research & Development and Quality Assurance departments, we give life to this claim, using the latest scientific findings to develop high-quality, innovative products to promote healthy skin.

Our team of 18 qualified cosmetic chemists, microbiologists, process engineers, chemical laboratory assistants and PTAs work daily on the evolution of new sebamed products for the highest medical demands. A a medium-sized family business, Sebapharma is investing intensively and sustainably in the future of skin health.

Our centre of innovation ensures that the packaging and contents of every sebamed product meet the highest quality standards – on a skin-healthy path of innovation.

Our departments

Quality Assurance

sebamed is more than just a brand. sebamed is a promise of quality that we make and keep. The Quality Assurance (QA) department ensures that every single sebamed product reliably meets our high quality standards.

From the raw materials to the packaging and the finished product: each substance, each item is meticulously checked according to strict guidelines. No jar, bottle or tube of the sebamed brand is sold without QA approval.

Some sebamed products are manufactured by contractors. This is possible because production is also accompanied by extremely thorough quality controls on site: before the start of production, during the process and on the final product. The Analytics department uses state-of-the-art measuring equipment (high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) and gas chromatography (GC)) to check the type, purity and concentration of each individual ingredient and its proportion in the finished product. This ensures sebamed quality – always and everywhere.
Microbiology

sebamed products must be safe and germ-free. This is the top priority for the Microbiology department. The use of preservatives is optimised already during the product development stage – with the aim of using as much as necessary and as little as possible. To this end, products are repeatedly inoculated and incubated with bacteria and fungi in a preservation load test to determine how much preservative is required to prevent the germs from multiplying further.

Raw materials, packaging and production facilities as well as the finished products are strictly and continuously checked for microbiological purity. No germ escapes our microbiology team and its state-of-the-art laboratory equipment. This is the only way that Sebapharma GmbH & Co. KG products can meet the highest dermatological and modern medical benchmarks, which continue to set new standards in skin and body care.

Scientific Advisory Board

Innovative strength thrives on exchange. This is particularly true for Sebapharma GmbH & Co. KG as a medium-sized family business with a scientific background and a commitment to science.

The Scientific Advisory Board is therefore an institution that is fundamental to Sebapharma. This committee, made up of internationally renowned experts from the fields of dermatology, chemistry and pharmacy, guarantees a constant exchange of experience between the company and research. The advisory board provides impetus for new solutions, supports scientifically sound innovations and accompanies product ideas through to market maturity.

Healthy Skin Working Group

Every year, Sebapharma initiates the now widely recognised Healthy Skin Working Group. In the major media cities of Hamburg and Munich, representatives of the specialist and general press are invited to take part in a dialogue on the topic of skin. The working group meets with great and growing interest from journalists and is highly regarded as a renowned information forum.

Every year, leading experts present and discuss the latest developments in dermatological research as part of the Healthy Skin Working Group. Each working group deals with a new topical issue. Topics such as "Skin care during winter sports", "Hair in the focus of science and fashion" or "Skin is a matter of beauty" have already been discussed.

In recent years, experts such as Prof Martina Kerscher, who holds the Chair of Cosmetics at the University of Hamburg, Prof Ralph Trüeb, Head of Dermatology at Zurich University Hospital, and Dr Michaela Arens-Corell, Head of the Medical and Scientific Department at Sebapharma, have spoken at the working group. Make-up artist Ralf Schattmann and psychologist Heinz Grüne also reported on their practical experience.

Heinz Maurer Award

The Heinz Maurer Award honours outstanding achievements in the field of dermatological research in order to continuously contribute to its progress. Science for healthy skin, Sebapharma's guiding principle, is thus also brought to life.

The Heinz Maurer Award has been promoting dermatological research since 1996, initiated by the physician and entrepreneur Dr Heinz Maurer, who died in 2016 and founded Sebapharma in 1967 and led it through the decades. Under his leadership, the family-owned company based in Boppard/Bad Salzig in Rhineland-Palatinate became a global player and pioneer of healthy modern skincare.

The award honours scientific publications in the fields of skin surface, modulation of skin structure and function in the areas of clinical research and basic research.
